Skincare for Men Over 40: What Actually Changes and What to Do

Short version: after 40 your skin makes less oil, holds less water and takes longer to bounce back from a late night. You do not need a shelf of products. You need to wash properly, keep the skin hydrated morning and night, and do it every day. That is ageing well.

What changes after 40

Three things. Skin produces less oil, so it dries out faster and looks duller. It holds less water, so lines show more by the afternoon. And it recovers more slowly, so a big week shows on your face for longer than it used to. None of this is a problem. It is just a reason to look after it.

What to stop doing

  • Washing with whatever is in the shower. It strips oil you no longer have to spare.
  • Skipping the night routine. Overnight is when the skin does its repair work and loses most of its water.
  • Chasing miracle products. Anything promising to turn the clock back is selling you a story. Consistency is the thing that shows.

The routine, in order

Morning, 1 2 3. No.1 Day Cleanser, No.2 Day Serum, No.3 Day Moisturiser. About a minute. Together as the AM Routine Set, £50.

Night, 4 5 6. No.4 Night Cleanser, No.5 Eye Cream, No.6 Night Oil. About a minute. Together as the PM Routine Set, £50.

All six as the Full Routine Set, £49.99 (was £89), which is the cheapest way to own the lot. Made in the UK, vegan, cruelty free, dermatologist tested, and the full ingredient list is on every product page.

Why the routine is the point

At 25 you can get away with nothing. At 45 the difference between men who wash and moisturise every day and men who do not is visible across a table. Two minutes a day, morning and night, is the whole investment.

Questions

Is it too late to start? No. The skin you have today responds to being looked after from the first week. Most men we hear from started somewhere between 35 and 50.

Do I need anti ageing products? You need hydration and consistency. We do not make claims about lines or wrinkles and you should be suspicious of anyone who does. Well looked after skin looks like well looked after skin, at any age.

What about sun? The single biggest factor. Any facial SPF over your moisturiser when the sun is out. We do not make one, use whichever you will actually wear.
